Detroit Uplifted and Upgraded - Positive Detroit
Black Friday Starting November 24, 2008
Even Santa himself can not find better deals in Detroit.
One of the reasons that I love Detroit is the experience of all the seasons. Although it was just warm fall weather last week, the start of the Thanksgiving/ Christmas holiday is approaching fast. And with that, the wonderful holiday events that this wonderful city offers all. Downtown Detroit has wonderful shops, restaurants, and other venues that we all love to go to. This holiday, forget the mall and hit up the people mover and get your holiday “on” downtown. I am personally getting excited, so I had to see when Campus Martius will open for ice skating. This will be my first year trying to ice skate and I hope I will not get too many bumps and falls. Well, I don’t have to wait long, the rink is opening earlier then expected and I hope to see everyone at the season opening.

New Theatrical Form Personalizes Detroit Stories.
DETROIT–The Story Owners Collective announces a Detroit premiere of THE RED
THREAD: Interwoven Performance Portraits. Performances will be held on
November 20 and 22, 2008, Thursday and Saturday, 7:30PM, at The Marlene Boll
Theatre, located inside the Boll Family YMCA, at 1401 Broadway, Detroit.
Both showings are open to the public and FREE of charge.
THE RED THREAD provides a rare intimate look into the heart and minds of
four Detroit artists. The play uses personal narrative to honor individual
journeys while revealing social interconnectedness. An ancient Chinese
proverb speaks of an invisible red thread of destiny, which connects all
humans to each other. It is said that this magical cord may tangle or
stretch but will never break.
During the course of the play, the four members of the Story Owners
Collective fuse their writing, acting and dance talents into an interwoven
solo performance collage. Cara Graninger dances her story, ALL OVER THE
MAP. Peter Putnam performs THE LOVE SONG OF FATHER-SON, Parts 1 and 2.
Julie Rosier presents SHEROES, VOICES AND BLISS, an autobiographical
one-woman show. And, Ce’Ann Yates combines selections from her fictional
show, TICK TOCK, with autobiographical monologue in, WHEN BREATH WAS
AUTOMATIC.
The Story Owners Collective was founded by Julie Rosier in Spring 2008.
Rosier got her start in Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit back in 1993 and
after college left for New York City to pursue a life in the performing
arts. She lived there for over five years, working as an actor/dancer,
director, choreographer, playwright and producer. Recently, her belief in
the transformational power of Detroit stories brought her back home.
This production is made possible by the generous support of Y Arts Detroit,
Cass Corridor Neighborhood Development Corporation, Trumbullplex and the
Boggs Center.

The big hearts of metro Detroit contributed big change to the Mariners Inn Homeless Shelter and Treatment Center in Detroit. The shelter raised $22,740 in donated cash and clothing during its summer clothing drive named “Restore the Hope.” The annual drive from August 22 to September 30 pulled at the hearts of metro Detroiter’s who donated thousands in clothing from their own closets and money from their own pockets. This news may surprise some considering all of the negative things not mentioned in this report about the economy. The organization said in a news release that it was pleased by the outpouring of generosity across the city and the suburbs. The drive has ended, but more opportunities for support to the organization exist. There is an upcoming dinner and silent auction.
